Wednesday, 29 April. Together with Jo Ellis, a music producer and a buddy of mine from my hometown, we spoke to Toast Coetzer and Erns Grundling from Weg Agterpaaie about what it’s like to grow up in a small town.
Look, mom! I’m on Weg Agterpaaie!
I grew up on Ladismith where my father worked for the cheese manufacturer now known as Ladismith Cheese. Like most mothers in those days, my mom kept herself busy baking for the VLV, gossiping with the neighbours and staying up to date on all the latest news in the county.
Growing up in a small town fosters an adventurous, creative spirit in young people, and this spirit can take you very far in life. I loved growing up in a small town like Ladismith where you can swim in mountain pools and cycle everywhere. We live in Cape Town now, but I hope to be able to return to the platteland one day.
Here’s the preview of the Weg Agterpaaie show:
The episode was aired on Wednesday, 29 March on the VIA channel on DSTV. I’ll try to get a copy of my clip to share later on. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
